She had the feeling that her origin might have something to do with her. People mistrusted her and her competence, even her colleagues who pretended to like her did. They whispered behind her back that she was a witch, and she would not mind to be a real witch and punish them all, except being a witch was a great crime that could cost her her life.
Some days, when she had worked very hard and nobody at the hospital would give her any credit, she wished she could travel back to her lands and visit her family. There, she would surely be able to be herself and be appreciated. One evening she mentioned her thoughts to William, when he heard how she was treated he became very upset. However, a trip to her home Kingdom would cost a lot of money, more than they could afford.
“I will see what I can do,” he finally said. “Maybe there is a way.”
When William ran into Mrs. Wall at the library, an idea came to mind. She was gaining quite a reputation playing the bass, and he was not too shabby at the guitar. Maybe, if they formed a band, they could get some essential money from playing at the local pubs. He hurried to talk to her before she left and spilled out his proposal without giving it much thought.
“Hmm,” she first hesitated. “Come by my place and play some tunes later this evening. If we are a good match, I think we can do it.”
So that was exactly what he did, he dressed in his best clothes and shaved and combed himself well and went to play for her. Soon they were both jamming together in good harmony.
“This might work,” she said before he left. She would invite him to play with her next time she played piano at the local lounge Chez Victoria, it would surely be a success.
